Friday Fun

This morning found G up and ready to head to the park. Thanks to a group on Facebook for local homeschoolers, I found out about a PE class on Friday mornings. G worked ahead so that she would have no school today. Unfortunately, I double checked the group and found a message that the lady would not be able to do the class after all due to work conflicts. As she is in the military, I don't think she can call in sick.

I told G that we would still go to the park and do our own workout. Abigail joined us. After we did an invigorating obstacle course and tried to run up a tree, we went to feed the ducks.

They were very anxious to see us and even met us before we even got close to the pond. As you can see, Abigail got up on a table to escape them!

Shortly after we gave them our bread, we heard a noise. The ducks immediately took off together towards the sound. We followed and discovered it was an automatic feeder that had dropped food into the water. They made quite the ruckus eating up the food. The white ones were the funniest with their tails up in the air.

For lunch we enjoyed a treat. Our local Chick-Fil-A offered a free sandwich with the purchase of a large drink if you wore a FSU shirt or cap. Well, since we are FSU fans, we were there!

This was the second time this week we were able to get free food.  Monday, when we went by the library, they had punch cards leftover from their summer program so we were able to go to McDonald's and get free cheeseburgers.  Have to love finding deals!

Happy Fall Day

"Happy Fall day, Mama!" was how my 7 year old greeted me this morning.  She is so excited that it is now Fall.  I remember those days!  Unfortunately, I have learned that here in Florida even though the calendar may say fall it takes a few weeks for the weather to catch up!  Should be soon though according the forecast.  I can't wait to open up the windows!!

I have used the hint of fall as an excuse to get some work done outside.  The garden areas have been neglected due to the rain and flooding this summer but we are finally dry so the girls and I have been pulling weeds for the last week.  I also moved some of my knock out roses to other areas because they weren't receiving enough sun.  I then found some azaleas for $3 at my local Ace so I planted them along with some Asiatic Jasmine that will hopefully give some ground cover to help with the weeds.  There are also some hostas in that area.

I also picked up some mums because it just isn't fall without them!  The girls and I also put out pine straw in the front beds as a mulch.  I think it fits living in the country.

Here is a hibiscus which has recovered so well from last winter that I hate to see it have to start over again next spring so I dug it up and put it in this pot. Now it can visit inside when the weather doesn't suit it's tropical needs.

I also dug up these guys which are also a jasmine.  I had planted them in front of the alarm for our septic system hoping to hide it some.  Instead they keep getting hidden by all the grass and weeds.  I moved them here and plan to get a trellis so they can hopefully help hide the garbage cans!

I had intended to work on our new veggie garden area but we are having problems with our mower and that is what pulls the plow.  Hubby did get the area mowed down some with the tractor.  Hopefully I can get to it early this week!

I'm wrapping up the day watching the Noles play Clemson and hoping they can pull out the win!! Happy Fall!!

Science happenings

The girls found a butterfly and was able to catch it. They enjoyed looking at it and examining it.

Eldestof5 is taking Apologia Biology this year and made it to the dissections. I let Daddy have the fun of helping her out. They did the earthworm and crayfish first. I worked out on the Wii Fit while they did the dissections. The younger girls enjoyed watching some also. It was a profitable time and information was learned by all.

Fay is gone!

Well, for the most part Fay is gone. We are still getting some showers such as the ones that gave us another 1.5 inches today for a total of 8.5 inches so far and some more showers expected tomorrow. We are grateful that it is that low though after hearing the amounts from other parts of the state. We had some strong winds but only branches and LOTS of leaves down. We heard that a tornado jumped us, so again, we are thankful for the Lord's protection. We lost our power Thursday night but got it back Friday morning. Our generator that we bought after the 2004 storms did well in providing us fans during the night and keeping our food cold. We spent the time doing a puzzle, playing games, and scrapbooking along with our school work. I will try and add some pictures tomorrow.

I picked up Longlegged girl this morning who had ridden out the storm in Ormond Beach with her aunt. She had a good visit in spite of the interruption by Fay. They even went to MGM Studios park in Orlando on Friday! I am thankful she is back home and we are all together safe and sound.

This is not what I wanted to see

We are just west of the circle where it makes another landfall. I'm thinking dh may have a few days at home and we probably won't have to worry about showing the house the next few days.

Recent Visitors

I am a nature lover and watching birds is one of my favorite things to do. Hummingbirds amaze me with their quickness and beauty. We finally have had some visiting our yard this year. They were emptying this little feeder just about every day so I have added a bigger one. They seem to like it even more because more than one can feed at a time and it has a perch for them to rest on. I was amazed to see one sit in our oak tree for a few minutes the other morning. I had been under the impression that they were always in movement and I guess my little visitors showed me how erroneous my belief was.

We also have many cardinals that visit our feeder. I was able to catch a few good pictures of them also. I love sitting on my patio to listen to and watch these beautiful creatures that the Lord has made.

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Matthew 6:26 ESV
